One of the biggest fantasy television franchises is preparing for another major chapter as The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power returns for its third season on November 11, 2026. The series, produced by Amazon MGM Studios, is expected to bring audiences back to Middle-earth for a story centred on war, power and the continuing struggle against Sauron.

According to Prime Video's announcement, the new season takes place five years after the fall of Eregion. Sauron's forces have expanded their influence, placing the remaining kingdoms and communities of Middle-earth under growing threat. The story will explore the consequences of his ambitions as he continues his attempt to forge the One Ring and establish control over the world.

The upcoming season will continue exploring the major characters and kingdoms introduced in previous instalments, including the Elven realms of Lindon and Rivendell and the underground kingdom of Khazad-dûm. These locations play important roles in the wider struggle against Sauron's growing power.

The series is based on the world created by celebrated author J.R.R. Tolkien and draws on the history of Middle-earth's Second Age. Its television adaptation has become one of Prime Video's major fantasy productions, combining large-scale visual effects, elaborate production design and an extensive ensemble cast.

The third season arrives at a time when streaming platforms are continuing to invest heavily in large-scale fantasy and science-fiction productions. Competition between major entertainment companies has increased the importance of established franchises capable of attracting international audiences.

With the return of Middle-earth, Prime Video is looking to maintain audience interest in one of its most ambitious television projects. The new season could become one of November's most significant fantasy television releases.
