According to Tripadvisor's newly released 2026 Winter Travel Index, New York City has secured the No. 1 position among domestic U.S. destinations for both Thanksgiving and Christmas through New Year. The rankings highlight the city's continued popularity among American travellers seeking memorable seasonal experiences.

The city's appeal extends beyond traditional sightseeing. Holiday entertainment, restaurants, shopping opportunities and cultural attractions make New York an attractive destination for families, couples and international visitors.

Rockefeller Center Prepares for Its Annual Christmas Tradition

One of the most anticipated attractions is the famous Rockefeller Center Christmas tree.

For 2026, the 76-foot Norway spruce is scheduled to arrive on November 7 from West Edmeston, New York. The annual lighting ceremony is scheduled for December 2, when more than 50,000 multicoloured LED lights will illuminate the tree beneath its Swarovski crystal star.
