Marking a significant leadership transition as the company reviews its future business strategy. The appointment became effective September 23, 2026, following a board-led succession process. Walker succeeds Ellis Jacob, who led Cineplex and its predecessor organisations for more than three decades.

Experienced entertainment executive takes charge

Walker brings extensive experience in cinema operations, retail and commercial real estate. Before joining Cineplex, he served as CEO of Landmark Cinemas, Canada's second-largest movie theatre exhibitor.

During his nine-year tenure at Landmark, he oversaw business operations and continued leading the Canadian company following its acquisition by Belgium-based Kinepolis in 2017.

Cineplex's board selected Walker following a global executive search and consideration of internal candidates.

Cineplex begins strategic review

Alongside the leadership announcement, Cineplex confirmed that its board had initiated a strategic review to examine opportunities to strengthen the company's business and shareholder value.

The review will assess potential strategic alternatives available to the company. Former CEO Ellis Jacob will remain involved as a special adviser to the board through December 31, 2026, supporting the transition and review process.

Challenges and opportunities in Canada's cinema industry

Cinema operators continue to navigate changing audience habits, competition from streaming platforms and fluctuations in film-release schedules.

For Cineplex, its theatre network, entertainment venues and advertising operations remain important parts of its business. The new leadership team will be responsible for evaluating how these operations can adapt to changing consumer expectations and industry conditions.

What happens next?

Walker takes charge while Cineplex evaluates its strategic options. The company's future decisions could influence its operations, investment priorities and position in Canada's entertainment industry.

The strategic review is an important development to follow as the company enters a new phase under its incoming leadership.
