American actress and comedian Awkwafina is bringing her love of food and cultural heritage to television with a new culinary series titled Awkwafina: The Unlikely Cook. The programme is scheduled to premiere on Apple TV on November 6, 2026.

The series follows Awkwafina as she travels across the United States, exploring Asian American cuisine and discovering the stories behind traditional dishes. Along the journey, she meets chefs, restaurant owners and food experts who introduce her to different cooking techniques, regional ingredients and culinary traditions.

One of the central themes of the programme is the connection between food, family and cultural identity. Awkwafina also explores her family's restaurant heritage in New York, giving the series a personal dimension beyond conventional cooking television.

The production brings together entertainment and culinary storytelling, offering viewers an opportunity to discover how immigrant communities have influenced American food culture.

Awkwafina, whose real name is Nora Lum, has established herself as a prominent figure in American entertainment. She gained international recognition through her performances in films including Crazy Rich Asians and The Farewell. She also received a Golden Globe Award for her performance in The Farewell, becoming the first Asian American woman to win the award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.

With this new project, the actress is exploring a different side of her public career, moving from scripted entertainment into food-focused documentary storytelling.

The series arrives during a period when streaming platforms are expanding their lifestyle and documentary programming. Food-related entertainment has become an increasingly popular format because it combines travel, culture, personal experiences and visual storytelling.

For audiences interested in Asian American culture, traditional cuisine and celebrity-led travel programmes, Awkwafina: The Unlikely Cook could become an interesting addition to November's streaming lineup.
